Budget 2018

We do not endorse any budgeting tool. But this is what the best systems look like:

  1. Flexible. Data can be uploaded from any ERP system or at least excel.

  2. Historical information is integrated. In the worst case (e.g. Hurricanes and earthquakes are good examples in September 2017), a budget could be done but just copying the data from the previous year.

  3. Top line adjustments are easy to make, as a percentage or in absolute terms, for any dimension. In the example above, entering 1% would increase sales everywhere by 1%.

  4. Data can be drilled down by any dimension (country, customer, business unit, product, SKU)

  5. The Budget can be done with as little or as much information as a controller wishes. For example, some, none or all info by customer, SKU and market can be entered.

  6. Anyone can upload data because the process is intuitive.

  7. It's easy to lock the system  (to prevent further changes from being made).

  8. It's easy to look at data at different exchange rates (budget, actual, historical).
